Yes, you read it well! You can drink juice that will help improve your skin condition! I am not talking about juices made in a lab consisting of ingredients that are the result of some elaborated complex formula. I am talking about home juices made with ingredients easy to find in your local supermarket.
As a qualified beautician, I spend most of my time studying and researching skincare. This allows me to stay in the loop of new products that come in the market but also to be able to advice and assess my clients skin. I love sharing facts and recent finds so here I am with the tea ...
A study conducted by the University of California, Los Angeles, found that a three-day juice detox can not only help reduce body weight but also reduce lipid peroxidation, and increase nitric oxide, which is related to heart health.
Alright, I heard myself out loud. Let's keep it simple...
Basically a 3 day juice detox could improve your energy, improve your sleep, help decrease sugar cravings but most importantly brighten your skin!
The idea behind a good detox is to cleanse your body and get rid of toxins and impurities that are clogging your organs, preventing your body to digest and extracts the right nutrition.
Most people start their weight loss journey with a detox in order to "flush" their body and put in ketosis state before following a specific balanced diet.
How does a 3-day detox work?
A 3-day detox consist of the consumption of juices extracted only fruits and vegetables. These juices are usually dictated by calorie counting and strict food groups. There are several juice plans out there with each promises of their own results. The usual plan includes 5 drinks a day with a least of 2.5l water per day. Each particular drink has their own ingredients thus further more their own purpose.
Here are some powerful fruits and vegetables that will surely improve your skin:
1. Carrot: Carrots are rich in vitamin A, a powerful antioxidant that helps curb the signs of aging and prevents cell deterioration, which helps maintain a youthful appearance. Carrots are also rich in vitamin C, which helps the body produce collagen.
2. Aloe Vera: Adding Aloe Vera juice to any of your recipes can provide some effects to improve the skin. It helps repair the collagen in the skin, delays aging and also reduces any unwanted skin irritation, such as acne.
3. Ginger: Ginger not only has a strong taste but also strengthens the immune system and reduces inflammation (which can cause acne). It is rich in nutrients such as magnesium, potassium, manganese, vitamin B6, and anti-aging antioxidants.
I am not saying that a 3-day juice detox will remove all you skin flaws. It could however help improve your skin care routine if you do it once every 2/3 months providing you maintain a healthy balanced diet, drink the daily recommended water and follow the right skincare routine for your skin type.
If you have a Special event coming up and you want to look your absolute best then I recommend you look into doing a 3-day juice cleanse and then maintain a balanced diet.
You must know there are a lot of research supporting the fact that a detox is health beneficial however there are as many proving to be skeptical and concluding the complete opposite. My conclusion is that although I have tried different detox programs and enjoy some benefits of it I still believe that everyone's body reacts differently. I highly recommend you do your own personal research and have a word with your GP before starting your own detox program.
Have you done a detox program before for other benefits than weight loss? Have some yummy recipes you could share with us?
